Nagelring is a unique ring that is most commonly use by players during Magic Find runs. It is of no other use since the other mods on it are useless.

The Stats:

Required Level: 7

Magic Damage Reduced By 3

+50-75 To Attack Rating

Attacker Takes Damage of 3

15-30% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items

The only mod on the ring that is useful is the last one:

15-30% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items

An MF  (Magic Find) Run in Diablo 2 is when players equip their characters with items that have the mod %Better chance of Getting Magic Items, where a higher % is better in terms of increasing the chances of getting better item drops from unique monsters, but while still having  enough firepower to obliterate monsters.

Perfect Nagelrings are those that spawn with 30% Better chance of Getting Magic Items, and if you lucky enough to have two perfect Nagelrings, that adds a whopping 60% to your MF ability. Nagelrings are thus very useful for characters on MF runs, and lose out only to the rarerMagic Fortuitous Ring of Fortune, of which a perfect one will grant you a 40% boost to your MF (thus beating out a perfect Nagelring by 10%).

Some Interesting History behind the Nagelring:

In the Diablo 2 Classic game, prior to v1.07, the game would always drop the following three unique rings in this order:

Nagelring > Manald Heal > Stone of Jordan

This meant that if the game generated a Unique ring, it would always be a Nagelring, provided there was no Nagelring in the game (either none of the players have it, or a monster hadn't dropped it in the game). If there was a Nagelring in the game, then a Manald Heal would drop. If there was a Manald Heal in the game (either through possession or having being dropped earlier), then a Stone of Jordan would drop. If all three were in the game, then a Rare ring would be spawned instead.

This rule was exploited by some players in the community: they carried a Manald Heal and Nagelring in their character's stash, thus any new unique ring that would drop would turn out to be a Stone of Jordan. The Stone of Jordan is more powerful ring compared to the other two, and at that point in time, was used as a currency between trading players in the Diablo 2 community.

Summary:

A Nagelring is good for MF runs, but that's about it.
